HCS provides administrative sponsorship and ongoing CACFP program support for eligible participating Emergency Shelters and At-Risk Afterschool Sites.

Depending on the program type and jurisdiction, support may include enrollment assistance, program administration, required communications, document review, ongoing technical guidance, and coordination of CACFP responsibilities throughout the program year.

HCS works with participating organizations to help them understand applicable program requirements and maintain organized CACFP operations.

HCS reviews required meal-service information and supporting documentation, prepares or processes eligible meal claims, and administers reimbursement-related activities in accordance with applicable CACFP requirements.

Participating organizations are responsible for maintaining accurate meal counts, attendance information, menus, enrollment or eligibility documentation when applicable, and other required records used to support reimbursement claims.

HCS may review submitted documentation for completeness and consistency before claims are processed.

HCS conducts required monitoring and provides technical assistance to help participating programs understand CACFP responsibilities and strengthen ongoing program operations.

Monitoring may include review of meal-service practices, required documentation, recordkeeping, program procedures, training completion, and other areas applicable to the site type.

When concerns or needed corrections are identified, HCS may provide follow-up guidance, technical assistance, or corrective-action support as required.

HCS provides required and supplemental CACFP training designed to help Emergency Shelter and At-Risk program staff understand program requirements and maintain effective CACFP operations.

Training topics may include meal-pattern requirements, meal-service documentation, recordkeeping, civil rights responsibilities, claims procedures, monitoring expectations, food-service practices, and other applicable program topics.

Additional training or technical assistance may be provided when program needs, regulatory changes, or monitoring findings indicate that further support would be helpful.

Accurate and organized documentation is an important part of successful CACFP participation.

HCS helps participating programs understand the records and supporting information needed for their site type. Depending on the program, this may include meal counts, attendance records, menus, enrollment or eligibility information, training documentation, monitoring records, production or service records, and other required program materials.

HCS may also provide forms, templates, instructions, and technical guidance to support consistent recordkeeping practices.
